I have always been drawn to ravens and how they look so ancient and knowing. This piece is the start of a new series focusing on animals used as ‘Messengers’. Ravens have been seen and used as messengers for thousands of years. In Norse mythology ‘Thought and Memory’ were Odins ravens (Huginn and Muninn) who were his eyes and ears throughout the nine realms as well as an extension of himself, and were the initial inspiration behind this piece. Ravens symbolise custodians of ancient wisdom, embody shapeshifting gods and goddesses, harbouring the secrets of creation and destruction.
